About this Position

  • The Engineering Manager Process Safety (EMPS) provides process safety support to APAC sites, ensuring compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and risk-based management principles. The role supports PSM improvement both for existing sites and capex project through risk assessments, incident investigations, technical support, training, and knowledge sharing, while strengthening process safety capability and best practice adoption across APAC region. 

What you´ll do

  • Facilitate the development of process safety communities across APAC by promoting technical exchange, best practices sharing, and cross-site learning to continuously improve process safety competency in APAC.
  • Provide process safety support to Sites, including HIRA, safeguard allocation, and risk mitigation to maintain acceptable risk levels.
  • Support and maintain site specific safety protocols and procedures, ensuring alignment with local/regional regulations as well as Henkel Global process safety governance.
  • Provide process safety support for CAPEX projects, ensuring compliance and risk management throughout the project lifecycle. Promote inherently safer and cost-effective designs to address risks at an early stage.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and follow-up of practical and risk-based solutions to address gaps from global audits, local regulatory inspections and incident investigation. 
  • Support process safety training programs, including HAZOP, explosion risk, pressure relief, SIS, thermal risk and QRA, etc, to strengthen process safety knowledge and competence development across the organization.
  • As a subject matter expert, guide sites on improving process safety performance, developing continuous improvement, and improving process safety assessment (HAZOP, EPD) quality. 
  • Collaborate with engineering, SHE, maintenance and operation teams to ensure process safety management measures meet or exceed the requirements set out in the Henkel AO risk-based process safety framework.
  • Help establish and maintain the Basis of Safety (BoS) document for the site(s) under their responsibility. Ensure the periodical review of this document as well as the revision of the associated HAZOP.
  • Contribute to process safety incident or process safety near miss investigations. Additionally, support the identification of failed barriers, lessons learned as well as the necessary preventive and corrective actions.
  • Provide process safety guidance during the management of change (MoC) process.
  • Support to identify and manage process safety critical equipment (PSCE). Perform assurance checks on the adherence to site ITPM plans with specific focus on overdue inspections and preventive maintenance.
  • Participate in process safety inspections, audits, and reviews to assess PSM compliance and to verify the effectiveness of actions resulting from incident investigations, HAZOP, EPD, etc. 
  • Assist operations to prepare for compliance and/or external audits. This involves collecting information, assisting with organizing and planning, follow up and tracking the status of corrective actions.
  • Ensure that process safety incident learnings (i.e., internal or external) is fully and sustainably embedded within the site-specific process safety program.

What makes you a good fit

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering with a strong technical background (preferably Chemical, Mechanical, Process Safety or Industrial Engineering).
  • A post-graduate degree in Science / Engineering is advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge in all the following areas and proficient in at least 3: engineering design, operational risk management, process safety management, process hazard analysis, risk assessment, explosion safety and ignition hazard assessment, consequence modeling and QRA, process safety audit based on CCPS elements, safety instrumented system, pressure/explosion relief devices, thermal risk assessment.
  • Working knowledge and/or proficiency in the application of the relevant legislation and industry recommended best practices related to process safety management (e.g., OSHA PSM 29 CFR 1910.119, Seveso III / Directive 2012/18/EU, COMAH/CIMAH, ISO, ASME, API RP, IEC, NFPA, GB, etc.).
